Migrant Workers

In addition to displaced people, many people from Burma cross the border as migrant workers, often laboring in the factories on the Thai side of the border or continuing farther into Thailand to work in the cities. These migrants, particularly undocumented workers, have no negotiation power and are therefore vulnerable to unsafe working conditions, exploitation, and trafficking. They may also be reluctant to seek health care in the event of illness or injury, in an effort to avoid detection by the authorities. Language barriers constitute another challenge in accessing resources about health and legal issues.
